Mark La Meir, MD, PhD is Chief of the Department of Cardiac Surgery at the University Hospital Brussels, Belgium, as well as a consultant at the Maastricht University Medical Center, the Netherlands, where he was previously a staff member. With a specialty in cardiothoracic surgery, La Meir has collaborated with cardiologists on the development of minimal invasive hybrid approaches for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. A member of the editorial board of the Annals of Cardiothoracic Surgery, La Meir earned a doctor in medicine from Free University of Brussels, Belgium, and a PhD at University of Maastricht, The Netherlands.
